GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Power and functions
It is basically main, Deliberative, policymaking, general debate and Representative organ of UN
It's powers, Composition, Functions and procedures are entitled in Chapter IV of United Nations charters
It is attributed for appointing the non-permanent members to the security council, appointing the secretary-general of United Nations, receiving reports from other parts of the UN system and making recommendation through resolutions
It comprises total 193 member countries and also known to be UN body with Universal representation where every member countries have equal representation
It also establishes and endeavour to assist time to time it's various subsidiary organs in broad perspective
It's headquarter is situated in New York and every member countries meet once in each year in the month of September
Here, head of general Assembly known as president and elected each year
Membership of states i.e countries in UN by a decision of general assembly upon recommendation of security council
DECISION MAKING IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY
It requires Two-Third majority on decisions of importance (peace and security, admission of new members and budgetary matters) and simple majority for other decisions
SITTING ARRANGEMENTS in the general assembly hall changes each session
- during the 74th session of general assembly (2019-2020)- Ghana occupied the First seat in the hall
